Plan your island drives

Choose a car for the island where you will actually drive. Vrenty Car helps you compare Seychelles car rental and prepare for collection, coastal roads and the return journey. Start with your dates and driver details, then check the individual offer's payment, protection and collection conditions. Mahe and Praslin need separate transport plans; an airport search does not guarantee airport delivery for every car or time.

Build your rental around one island at a time

A Seychelles itinerary can contain several very different journeys: arrival at Seychelles International Airport on Mahe, a stay near Beau Vallon, a passenger crossing to Praslin and a later flight home. Putting all those dates into one car search can hide the real requirement. Write down where each overnight stay takes place, where you arrive on that island and the time you leave. Rent for the periods when a car serves those plans.

For a Mahe stay, think about daily access to your accommodation as well as outings. A hillside property may be close to the coast on a map but involve a steep final approach. For Praslin, collection near your arrival point can reduce transfers, provided the supplier accepts the location and time. Do not plan to move the same rental car between islands. Our Praslin and island hopping guide explains how to coordinate separate rentals without making the connection unnecessarily tight.

Check the handover before comparing the headline rate

The main search is oriented to Seychelles International Airport, identified by SEZ, on Mahe. This is a useful starting location, not a promise of terminal service. A car can appear in results while the location selector offers an office instead of airport collection for your selected time. Open the collection details before committing. If the airport option is unavailable, choose a workable confirmed alternative or ask booking support for clarification; do not assume a representative will meet the flight anyway.

An office arrangement may still suit your trip if its address, opening time and transfer are practical. Compare the complete journey from arrivals to the keys. Include the transfer, any delivery charge, the walk with luggage and your driver's condition after flying. For hotel collection, provide the exact property and entrance rather than a broad district. The Seychelles airport rental guide covers meeting instructions, delayed flights and returning the vehicle before check-in.

Choose size for roads, passengers and luggage

A small automatic is a useful starting point for a couple who want manageable dimensions and less work while adapting to island driving. The useful comparison is not simply hatchback versus SUV: check the boot shape, passenger space and the number of large bags you will carry. A vehicle described as having five seats may have little luggage room with all seats occupied. Ask about the actual layout when child seats or bulky equipment are involved.

Extra ground clearance can help with a permitted uneven accommodation approach, but it does not authorise beach driving or unpaved shortcuts. A large vehicle also needs more passing and parking space. If you are considering a seven-seater, confirm how much boot space remains with the third row in use. Select a car you can position confidently on narrow roads, rather than upgrading solely because a route passes through hills. Check transmission and air conditioning on the offer itself.

Compare the whole rental cost

Use the final calculation for your dates, local collection time and return time. A low daily figure can become less attractive once delivery, an additional driver or a required child restraint is included. Compare like with like: the same island, duration, transmission, extras and protection. A week-long rate is not necessarily seven times a one-day quote, and extending the return by a few hours can affect the billed period. Check the calculation rather than assuming a grace period.

We do not publish a permanent starting price or a monthly price forecast. Availability and supplier pricing change, and a quote for one set of dates is not evidence of what your stay will cost. If your plans are flexible, compare a few genuine alternatives that still fit your flights and accommodation. Record the total, the cancellation deadline and the money needed at collection. A cheaper non-refundable arrangement is only useful when its restrictions fit the uncertainty in your trip.

Separate rental payment, deposit and damage liability

Three amounts deserve separate lines in your notes. The booking payment reserves the offer through the booking service. The remaining rental balance pays for the agreed hire and selected items. A security deposit, when required, is held or collected under the supplier's conditions. A deposit is not automatically a spending charge, and its amount does not necessarily equal the insurance excess. Do not use one number as a substitute for reading the others.

A no-deposit offer can reduce the funds tied up during your trip, but it does not mean every incident is covered or that the driver has no responsibility. Check what protection includes, what it excludes, and what reporting is required after damage. Glass, tyres, keys, the underside and unauthorised road use deserve specific questions. Our Seychelles deposit and insurance guide gives a practical method for comparing the financial exposure without relying on labels such as full cover.

Match payment and documents to the named driver

Check the driver's age, how long the licence has been held and any category-specific conditions before paying. Bring the original documents required for the selected offer. Ask about an international driving permit or translation where the licence format creates uncertainty, and remember that a supporting permit does not replace the underlying licence. If two people may drive, arrange both correctly instead of relying on an informal agreement between passengers.

Payment rules can differ between the online reservation, the balance and the deposit. Confirm whether your particular card type is accepted, whose name must be on it and whether a physical card is needed. A bank card that succeeds online may not satisfy a supplier's collection requirement. Travellers without a credit card should read the relevant offer closely and request clarification before making a payment. Keep enough accessible funds for the agreed rental costs and ordinary trip expenses at the same time.

Allow for the road, not just the distance

Seychelles drives on the left. Mahe's roads can combine coastal traffic, village activity and winding climbs within one relatively short journey. Plan a gentle first drive and practise locating the indicators, lights and wipers while parked. Set navigation before moving and choose a safe place to stop if the directions become confusing. A passenger can help with route changes, but the driver still needs space to concentrate on the road and oncoming traffic.

Treat the time shown by navigation as a starting estimate. Rain, roadworks, school traffic and a difficult destination entrance can change a short journey considerably. Keep daylight available for an unfamiliar accommodation approach. On a narrow section, avoid forcing a pass just because the route looks minor on the map. Our driving guides focus on positioning, parking and practical preparation. Follow current signs and local instructions; a general guide cannot tell you the restriction at every junction on the day you arrive.

Choose outings that suit the length of your stay

For a first Mahe outing, pair a manageable drive with one main destination and a clear parking plan. Beau Vallon and Victoria work as a useful north-island combination when you allow for urban parking and the hill road between them. A southern outing needs a longer block of time: choose a few stops around Anse Royale, Takamaka or the southwest coast rather than attempting every beach. There is little benefit in reaching several places with no time to leave the car.

Check the map route to the actual visitor entrance before travelling, then add time for parking and the walk from the car. Build the day around the stop you most want to make and treat other visits as optional. Localrent's Seychelles conditions allow only paved public roads and prohibit taking the vehicle off its home island. A scenic shortcut is unsuitable when it breaches those conditions. For a full day away from your base, the Mahe south coast road trip shows how to group stops and keep a return margin.

Make parking and fuel part of each day's plan

Ask your accommodation whether parking is actually available for your dates, where the entrance is and whether a gate closes at night. In Victoria, choosing one lawful parking place and walking between nearby stops can be easier than moving the car repeatedly. At beaches, look for designated access and avoid soft sand, drainage edges and spaces that block a driveway. Shade is useful, but consider branches and other overhead hazards before leaving a car underneath them.

Check the fuel type at handover and record the starting gauge. The applicable return policy may require the same level or another specified arrangement; do not assume every supplier uses full-to-full. Locate a suitable fuel stop ahead of the return day and check its opening time directly. Fuel availability should be especially visible in an early-flight plan. Keep the final receipt until the return is settled, together with photographs of the dashboard and the supplier's return record.

Decide whether you need a car every day

A rental is useful when you want several independent stops, carry family equipment or stay somewhere inconvenient for your preferred public transport journeys. It may add little on a day spent at your accommodation or on an organised boat outing. Compare a shorter hire with transfers on arrival and departure, including the effort of collecting the car later. The most practical plan can combine different transport methods across the holiday.

Taxis can be helpful for a late arrival, dinner when nobody wants to drive or a single direct transfer. Obtain a quote for the actual route, luggage and waiting arrangement. For buses, consult SPTC for routes, ticket products and current conditions, and verify that your luggage and last connection are workable. The car rental or taxi comparison provides a trip-based worksheet. It avoids assuming that one option is always cheaper for every traveller.

Know who handles the booking and the car

Vrenty Car is an independent affiliate and information website. We may earn commission from eligible bookings made through partner links. Localrent provides the booking intermediary service; the selected rental company supplies the vehicle and enters into the actual rental agreement with you. The supplier's confirmation establishes the collection arrangement for your reservation. Read how booking works to understand which organisation handles each part of the journey and where to send a question before making a payment.

Before departure, save the voucher, supplier contact and collection instructions offline. Compare the agreement at handover with what you selected, record existing damage and clarify the return procedure while the representative is present. If plans change, use the verified booking channel promptly. Our booking policy guide explains what to check about amendments and cancellation. Written confirmation of a workable arrangement is more useful than a general promise about convenience.

Questions & answers

Can I collect every advertised car at Seychelles airport?

No. Results and collection eligibility are separate. Airport delivery may be unavailable for an individual offer or time, even when the search location is Seychelles International Airport. Check the location selector and final confirmation; an office option needs its own transfer plan.

Can one booking cover driving on Mahe and Praslin?

Plan separate rentals on the two islands, with passenger travel between them. Confirm each handover independently. Do not assume a Mahe vehicle can travel on your ferry or that an island change is a normal one-way return.

Is a credit card always necessary?

Conditions vary by offer and payment stage. Check the online payment, remaining balance and any deposit individually. A no-credit-card label does not establish that every cash currency or debit card will be accepted in every circumstance.

What should I do before choosing a no-deposit car?

Read the damage liability, protection exclusions and incident procedure as carefully as the deposit condition. Confirm the driver requirements and total cost. Avoid treating the absence of a security hold as a promise that accidental damage will never produce a charge.
